Into the swamp forest
The party is currently making our way across from Kabo, in the northwest of the Republic of Congo (ROC) to the East (Lac-Tele). In fact, this update is being written in the dark onboard a local pirogue (canoe) en-route.
We are interested in sampling streams and rivers draining different land-cover types and have now moved into a region dominated by swamp forests. This region makes up one of the largest swamps in the world. As part of our water sampling, we are routinely measuring climatically important gas concentrations in both the air and water. This measurements will allow us to further understand gas fluxes between the atmosphere, forests & soils and waters within the Congo Basin.
